STRUCTURAL SAFETY

That one of the best weapons of structures against earthquake is its lightness is well known all along. This type of construction can also weigh up to 7-8 times less than a similar structure in reinforced concrete or masonry. The only floor, and ended up wearing the same loads, has a weight of about 100 kg/m2, compared to 400-500 kg/m2 floors of brick and cement, with the difference, however, in the event of an earthquake, to be subject to forces of inertia significantly lower.

The lightweight structure then involves a considerable saving even in the sizing of the foundation compared to traditional structures, and still is this feature that makes this type of structures suitable to be preferred for installation even on soils of low bearing capacity, where to build heavy structures be flocking traditional costly reinforcement of the soil in order to increase the lift.

In addition, the weight of the floors means that they can also be covered spans considerable ground clearance, up to 7-8m.

The use of steel then, makes the whole structure exceptionally "solid" in relation to weight and easy to produce.

Another great advantage is the incombustiblità, since the entire metal frame is completely lined with fireproof panels and false ceilings for which, contrary to the traditional structures such as eg. reinforced concrete, where in case of fire, beams, columns and slabs are directly exposed to the fire, this type of structure you have "screens" and therefore protected by the flames.

This makes it essential and preferable also for buildings for storage of flammable materials.

Last but not least, there is the advantage that the steel, if galvanized well, is practically "eternal" as it is the only material capable of maintaining unchanged its mechanical characteristics over time and is completely recyclable.
